The International Research Group « Sexual Violence in Armed Conflict » was founded in October 2010 in Hamburg. It aims to bring together empirical and theoretical studies focusing on sexual violence in different theaters of armed conflict in a series of workshops and conferences. Historians, legal scholars, sociologists, philosophers, psychologists, experts in cultural studies, and human rights activists develop common research questions and a framework for comparison, present and discuss their work, and explore opportunities for cooperation.

Comment donner à la planète les moyens de résister aux détériorations, comment assurer une présence responsable des hommes à cet égard: tels sont les enjeux fondamentaux de la nouvelle conférence internationale de Rio, vingt ans après la première. Elle devra évaluer le chemin parcouru et proposer de nouvelles directions. Cette rencontre, à Clichy-la-Garenne, se propose de faire le point sur ces questions. Avec des spécialistes qui traiteront des thèmes fondamentaux qu’elles soulèvent: les changements climatiques, le développement durable, l’économie verte, la préservation des écosystèmes et des ressources, l’implication du monde scientifique dans les problématiques écologiques … La liste n’est pas exhaustive. Mais les éclairages nécessaires sont plus que jamais d’actualité.
Cette rencontre sera animée par Laurent Bourdon, journaliste.

2012 RISC Conference “Globalization, Violence and Security: Local Impacts of Regional Integration”

Paper proposals are invited for any of these seven panels (see full explanation below). Proposals must have a title and an abstract of no more than 250 words and be sent directly to panel coordinators (email addresses listed below) by 30 JUNE 2012. Please keep a copy of your proposal for reference purposes. You will be notified by late July if your abstract has been accepted for the conference.
The conference will include presentations made in English, Spanish or French, with simultaneous translation provided by the conference organizers.
The RISC Consortium will pay for four nights’ hotel accommodation and meals of all speakers (one per paper) participating in the conference. Travel arrangements are the responsibility of conference participants or their home institutions. The RISC Consortium does not have grants available for either international or domestic travel to and from Mexico City.

4 Post-Doc Fellowships in Political Ecology
The European Network for Political Ecology (ENTITLE) offers 4 post-doc fellowships available to candidates from all over the world. ENTITLE is an EU-funded Initial Training Network whose aim is to promote European research and advanced training on the field of political ecology, including the study of the commons, environmental conflicts, movements, disasters, ecological democracy and environmental justice. One of the four fellows will be hosted in the coordinating unit at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (www.eco2bcn.es)and one in each of the three non-academic partners of the network in Rome (www.cdca.it), Bethelem-Palestine (www.foeme.org) and
Vilanova i la Geltrú a town near Barcelona (http://ent.cat).
