Le Bureau des Amériques – Pôle de développement de l?Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) lance un nouvel appel d’offres concernant le soutien aux manifestations scientifiques.

L?action d?appui de l?AUF a pour finalité de promouvoir la science en français et d?apporter un soutien aux réseaux universitaires et scientifiques qui démultiplient la coopération universitaire francophone, contribuent à son rayonnement international et renforcent la solidarité et le partage des savoirs entre les établissements universitaires.

Quel que soit le(s) champ(s) disciplinaire(s), la préférence sera donnée aux manifestations qui :

• s’inscrivent dans un projet universitaire de recherche ou de formation, exclusion faite des Assemblés générales, des congrès annuels, des colloques périodiques, etc.
• permettent le transfert de connaissances entre les chercheurs ou/et les doctorants du Nord et du Sud,
• se déroulent entre le 1er mars et 31 juillet 2014.

Soutenance de thèse en Anthropologie, Amandine Delord : « Lorsque l’enfant paraît »: Rencontres, liens et ruptures. Une approche anthropologique des adoptions en Colombie » (25 nov, Paris)

Soutenance de thèse: « « Lorsque l’enfant paraît »: Rencontres, liens et ruptures. Une approche anthropologique des adoptions en Colombie », pour l’obtention du Doctorat d’Anthropologie, qui aura lieu :

Résumé : L’adoption internationale en Colombie représente 14 % des adoptions françaises à l’étranger en 2011. Elle est un système de juxtaposition et d’imbrication d’acteurs et d’expériences de parenté. De par sa dimension transnationale, l’adoption lie des acteurs asymétriques avec pour extrémités les parents adoptants européens et la génitrice colombienne. Mais son inscription dans le contexte local de parenté colombienne révèle également l’importance d’un tissu relationnel dense et varié, constitué de divers transferts d’enfants en parallèle. Quant à son statut officiel et formel, il implique l’intervention de l’État dans la définition, la mise en forme et l’application de la pratique de l’adoption. Ainsi, ce travail est le fruit d’une ethnographie multi-située du système de l’adoption en Colombie avec un abord depuis les différentes positions possibles.
L’objectif est alors d’interroger la logique de chaque acteur impliqué et les enjeux existants autour de l’enfant : comment l’acte de mise en adoption prend-il sens pour une mère, dont la grossesse n’est pas désirée ? Selon quels critères l’État définit-il l’adoptabilité d’un enfant ? Quelles sont les modalités d’implication de la famille d’accueil dans ce maternage transitoire ? Et enfin, de quelle manière les parents adoptants assument-ils leur rôle dans la (re)construction identitaire de l’enfant ?
Regards, vécus, positionnements se rencontrent et s’articulent, témoignant souvent de rapports de pouvoir. L’adoption parle ainsi d’un exercice de contrôle sur la vie et les corps, mettant à jour une inter-sectionnalité de mécanismes de dominations (« postcoloniale », étatique, hétérosexuelle, voire raciale), repérée et analysée dans cette thèse.

Beyond Polanyi: What We Really Know about Ancient Maya Production

Des générations d’archéologues ont étudié la distribution des biens précieux dans les enregistrements archéologiques dans le but de comprendre l’organisation de la production et l’essor des élites politiques. En ce qui concerne les systèmes économiques mayas, la thèse dominante tend à écarter un controle effectif par l’élite et met en question l’existence de spécialistes à plein temps, pointant un degré de complexité sociale quelque peu inférieur à ce que supposent bien des idées reçues concernant les anciens Etats et les cités-Etats. Je suggère que la distribution des biens documentée par l’archéologie des communautés mayas reflètent la consommation, et non pas la production, et que l’existence de spécialistes à plein temps n’est guère pertinente en ce qui concerne l’essor des élites dans les économies politiques du passé. Je présente des données provenant du site de Chau Hiix, Belize, afin d’illustrer mes arguments.

Agência FAPESP –  The Thematic Project “Social  and Environmental Processes associated with the Construction of the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Dam in Brazilian Amazonia”,  with funding from FAPESP, offers a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at NEPAM in the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp).

The fellowship holder will work in the interdisciplinary área of human-environment research, and the work will focus on the impacts of Belo Monte on the riverine populations near Altamira and which will be directly affected by the reservoir that will flood many riverine communities. The postdoc will evaluate the social and economic system of these traditional populations during the process of dam construction, how their lives will be changed, and where they are  resettled. In theoretical terms, the postdoc will gain experience with new approaches to human-environment research, in order to better understand how people make decisions and how they adapt to a situation of rapid environmental, social and economic change.

The Project will be coordinated by professor Emilio F. Moran,  together with Profs. Ademar Romeiro, Lucia Ferreira and Leila Ferreira of NEPAM at Unicamp, and Prof. Jose Antonio Herrera of UFPa, Altamira Campus.This thematic Project is parto f a new special program  Excellence Chairs at FAPESP, which brings Professor Emilio Moran, from Michigan State University, USA and a member of the US National Academy of Sciences to work at Unicamp with a group of human-environment scholars around the above thematic Project.

This postdoc fellowship builds on decades-lomg studies of Prof. Moran in Altamira and is concerned with understanding adaptive processes of riverine Amazonian populations. The postdoc should demonstrate experience interviewing riverine and traditional Amazonian populations, experience with survey research methods, a range of sampling methods, and ethnographic and statistical expertise. The survey parto f the work will try to build a comprehensive understanding of how the construction of Belo Monte is changing the lives of riverine populations, and how they make decisions about their future within this context. The postdoc will collaborate with another Postdoc that will focus on the urban population of Altamira. It is expected the postdoc will spend a minimum of three months a year in the riverine communicities, to work with other team members and help facilitate the field work of the entire team, and to travel to Michigan to coordinate some of the work and publications with the PI. The PI needs to have fluente knowledge of Portuguese and working knowledge of English, have previous experience with rural and riverine populations in Amazonia, and be willing to reside parto f the year in Altamira and Campinas.

The selection process will occur in two stages. In the first stage, the candidate willhave the documentation evaluated and in the second stage, the evaluation will be based on a personal interview.

In theoretical terms, the postdoc will gain experience with new approaches to human-environment research, in order to better understand how people make decisions and how they adapt to a situation of rapid environmental, social and economic change.
