We are pleased to inform you of more high-level speakers who have confirmed their participation in the conference: ProfessorLouka Katseli of Athens University and former Greek Minister for Labour and Social Security, Mr. Bright Simons, President of mPedigree Networks, Professor Jie Chen of University of Idaho, a William Borah Distinguished Professor of Political Science and Professor Pierre Jacquet President of the Global Development Network.

EADI – 2014 in Partnership with the City of Bonn

In 2014 European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes (EADI) has the honour of partnering with the City of Bonn. During this year, EADI will also hold its 40th anniversary celebrations. Every year since the year 2000, the City of Bonn partners with an international organization with its headquarters in Bonn showcasing the city as a hub of international organizations and giving the limelight to an organization to present its causes and concerns.

EADI has chosen the theme of inequality one of the biggest global challenges of our time, which in its various facets, will punctuate the events lined up for the partnership throughout 2014. With the build-up of events and deliberations towards the formulation of a global development framework in the year 2015, inequality within and between countries will undoubtedly dominate the agenda of governments world-wide

*The partnership sets into motion with a plenary discussion contextualizing the dynamics of poverty and inequality in Germany. This opening event will take place at the Town hall in Bonn on 18 February 2014 at 1630 hours.

Avec un gramophone en guise de tête, comment penser avec rectitude? Sa charmante tête blonde de dix-huit ans, avait été démontée et remplacée par un disque juste bon à bêler la marche de Rákóczy. Le pauvre gosse avait dû souffrir devant leurs discours sur l’humanité ! Avec un disque planté sur le cou, comment comprendre que les soldats italiens qu’on voyait passer en sang auraient eux aussi préféré rester à la maison ? — Gramophone ! Allez chercher les têtes ! Que des ­gramophones ! Mais sa vocifération libératrice se brisa en une plainte sourde. À chacune de ses paroles, une aiguille acérée lui fouillait le cerveau.

Écrivain hongrois d’expression allemande, Andreas Latzko (1876–1943) reste « au premier rang des témoins qui ont laissé le récit véridique de la Passion de l’Homme en l’an de disgrâce 1914 » (Romain Rolland). Blessé en 1915, il commence la rédaction de ce recueil, qui paraît pour la première fois en 1917.

Ma thèse en 180 secondes : un défi pour les doctorants !
Le concours Ma thèse en 180 secondes permet aux doctorants de présenter leur sujet de recherche, en français et en termes simples, à un auditoire profane et diversifié. Chaque étudiant ou étudiante doit faire, en trois minutes, un exposé clair, concis et néanmoins convaincant sur son projet de recherche. Le tout avec l’appui d’une seule diapositive !

Le concours « Ma thèse en 180 secondes » est inspiré du concours « Three minute thesis (3MT®) », conçu à l’Université du Queensland.
Le concept a été repris en 2012 au Québec par l’ ACFAS qui a souhaité étendre le projet à l’ensemble des pays francophones.

Le concours 2014
Ce concours est organisé par les universités volontaires en région avec l’appui des délégations régionales du CNRS ; la CPU et le CNRS, qui chapeautent l’évènement, organiseront la finale nationale qui désignera les lauréats français qui défendront notre pays lors de la finale internationale au Québec.

Les étudiants qui souhaitent participer à la compétition doivent s’adresser à la personne qui coordonne le concours dans leur université.

Offre de stage de M2 « Services écosystémiques culturels » (Tours, 37)

Vous trouverez ci-joint une offre de stage au sein de l’UMR CITERES à Tours, portant sur les services écosystémiques culturels des espaces verts urbains.
L’objet du stage est de travailler sur les dimensions sociales des services écosystémiques culturels, appliquées à des écosystèmes spécifiques, à savoir les « espaces verts » en milieu urbain (valeurs esthétiques, récréationnelles, patrimoniales, etc.) grâce à la mise en oeuvre d’une enquête auprès des bénéficiaires des services culturels rendus.

Durée 5 mois à compter du 7 avril 2014.
Indemnités Indemnité standard : 1/3 du SMIC + défraiement
Profil recherché Étudiant en master 2 en sciences sociales (géographie, aménagement, urbanisme, sociologie, anthropologie, sciences politiques, éventuellement études agronomiques ou en sciences du paysage)

Proposition de stage de M2 Laboratoire LOTERR (Université de Lorraine) / MSH Lorraine

Proposition de stage de M2 au Laboratoire LOTERR (Université de Lorraine) / MSH Lorraine, en y apportant une précision: il s’agit de la vallée de l’Orne en Lorraine.

L’objectif de la mission est de réaliser une étude diachronique permettant de retracer les différentes occupations du sol et les  évolutions des paysages de la vallée de l’Orne à diverses échelles, de la parcelle et de la friche, au coeur du projet, à la vallée, en  passant par les échelles communales et intercommunales. Les entrées paysagères et cartographiques seront privilégiées.
Cette étude s’inscrit dans le pré-opération de recherche  interdisciplinaire REVERTER (réversibilité de l’usage des territoires) soutenu par la MSH Lorraine. Cette action est une collaboration du laboratoire de géographie-aménagement LOTERR et du laboratoire LSE (Laboratoire Sols et Environnement) qui travaille dans le domaine de la requalification de sites dégradés et qui a ainsi développé des savoir-faire liés au génie pédologique pour  assurer une restauration écologique des milieux.

Profil des candidat-e-s : Le/la candidat-e doit être issu-e d?une  formation dans le ou les domaines suivants : géographie- > aménagement, histoire contemporaine. Un véhicule personnel est > indispensable (frais de mission remboursés). La maîtrise d?un > logiciel de DAO (illustrator) est attendue (formation possible). Une > grande autonomie est requise.
Durée : 6 mois, d?avril à septembre 2014

Urban Infrastructures in Transition: The Case of African Cities?
The Graduate School for Urban Studies (URBANgrad) from Darmstadt University of Technology announces eight doctoral fellowships, beginning October 1, 2014. We welcome applications from students with a master?s degree interested in joining a new graduate program on urban and infrastructural change in East Africa. This interdisciplinary program is funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation and includes the following academic subjects: Spatial and Infrastructure Planning, Urban Development and Design, History of Technology, and Economic Geography and Global Studies.
The program ?Urban Infrastructures in Transition? focuses on developments in the East-African cities of Dar es Salaam and Nairobi. In particular, it highlights the history of and the current challenges posed by urban infrastructures?the supply and use of water, energy, sewerage, and telecommunication services. Within its framework, researchers critically investigate the tensions between, on the one hand, internationally circulating technological ideals and models in the planning, design and construction of cities (especially those of the networked city ) and, on the other hand, local processes of appropriation and modification. Studies on the Tanzanian and Kenyan cities are carried out with these overall perspectives in mind:
· The cultural history of urban technologies
· Formal and informal ways of producing urban space
· Socio-technical assemblages and the planning process
· Geographies of marketization, technopolitics and infrastructure
We invite applications from candidates with excellent academic records, a burning interest for African cities, and who are socially and politically engaged (e.g., in NGOs, unions, student bodies, political parties, or churches). Fellowships are granted for a maximum of 3 years in accordance with the rules of the Hans Böckler Foundation and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Monthly stipends are ? 1,150,- (parents receive additional child allowances). There are no tax reductions and tuition fees. However, fellows have to finance their own health insurance. Les numéros thématiques sont coordonnés par deux ou trois jeunes chercheurs (doctorants en fin de thèse et post-doctorants) et rassemblent une dizaine de contributions (environ 250.000 caractères) qui participent de manière cohérente à la compréhension d’un phénomène social particulier.
