Ph.D. course: ‘Women, Energy and Health: Questioning Current Paradigms for Development and Social Change’

Date: 6 – 8 January 2014

Venue: Centre for Development and the Environment (SUM), University of Oslo, Norway

Organised by: The Centre for Development and the Environment’s (SUM) research area on Energy and Consumption, SUM Research School and the Interfaculty research area Livelihoods in Developing Countries (LEVE) at the University of Oslo, Norway

Objective: The principal objective of this course is to review and question the underlying assumptions on social change that inform the current paradigms within development discourses on women, energy and health. We wish to enable doctoral students to better understand key concepts, debates and perspectives in energy, health and gender equality for the purposes of research, policy making and/or concrete programmes and projects.

Who may apply?

The interdisciplinary nature of the course will appeal to doctoral students from a variety of backgrounds, such as anthropology, sociology, geography, political science, medical science, public health, gender studies, development studies, engineering, economics and area studies. While doctoral students will be prioritised, a few places may be available for well-qualified researchers, practitioners and final year masters students.

Iberian International Business Conference, Braga, 4 and 5 of October
Deadline for submissions EXTENDED – August 26^th

We are inviting all to participate in the 9th Iberian International Business Conference, in Braga, 4 and 5 of October of 2013. We aim at bringing together Portuguese and Spanish scholars actively researching in topics related to Foreign Direct Investment, International Trade, Firm Internationalization and International Management.

As in earlier IIBC Conferences, this event is a privileged forum to discuss recent work done by researchers in the interdisciplinary areas of International Business, International Entrepreneurship, International Marketing, International Trade strategies, International Finance, International Production and Operations and International Management. Papers do not have to be focused on the cases of Portugal and Spain only, although these are welcome.

The next 9th IIBC meeting will take place in Braga, Portugal, hosted by NIPE and the School of Economics and Management from University of Minho, with the main theme “Globalization of Iberian Firms in a Challenging World”.

Contributors are requested to send their submissions in electronic format (PDF or Word file) by August 26th, 2013.
All papers should be submitted in English with a reference to IIBC Conference, no later than the deadline. Please see the style guidelines for further information.

Early registration for PHD students (By September 13^th, 2013) – 80 euros

The price includes the documentation, lunch (on the 4th  and 5th), the conference dinner, coffee breaks and a social program on the last day of the conference (visit to Port Wine cellars in Porto). Hotels in Braga range from 25 euros per night (Basic hotel) to 70 euros per night (5 stars hotel).

AFRICA editorial board + ASAUK conference 2014

To the members of the AFRICA editorial advisory board:

As discussed at our most recent editorial advisory board, the IAI/AFRICA is able to sponsor one or two panels at the next ASAUK
conference being held 9-11 September 2014. The kind of sponsorship we anticipate is a modest financial contribution of e.g. £500 to a panel
to help an African scholar to attend the conference who would not be able to access full funding through other means.

At the 2012 ASAUK conference for example, the journal sponsored a panel on radio convened by Harri Englund; and at the recent AEGIS
conference, a round table on ‘the popular’ convened by Birgit Meyer/Filip De Boeck/Karin Barber.

The ASAUK’s CFP is attached. Please note that the deadline for submissions of panels is 20 September 2013. If you are proposing a panel, which you would like the IAI/AFRICA to consider sponsoring, please inform us about your panel by the same deadline giving an indication of the support being sought.

All requests for support from the IAI/AFRICA will be considered by the journal editors and Institute.

Ouverture à cette rentrée d’un Master Professionnel en Protection et Droits de l’Enfant en Afrique à l’Université Ouaga II

J’ai le plaisir de porter à votre connaissance que dès la rentrée 2013-2014, l’Université Ouaga II organisera en partenariat avec l’Institut International des Droits de l’Enfant (IDE) et l’Institut Universitaire Kurt Bösch  (IUKB)tous deux à Sion en Suisse, un Master Professionnel en Protection et Droits de l’Enfant en Afrique.
Ce Master interdisciplinaire et à vocation régionale connaîtra l’intervention d’experts internationaux, régionaux et nationaux de la protection de l’enfance.
L’Université Ouaga II abritera dès cette rentrée, ce master au sein de l’Institut Universitaire de Formation Initiale et Continue (IUFIC)qui vient d’être créé par arrêté du Ministre des Enseignements Secondaire et Supérieur du Burkina Faso.

OBJECTIFS

·Acquisitionpar les étudiants de connaissances théoriques et pratiques, scientifiquement fondées, dans le domaine du droit et de la protection de l’enfant  et sur la situation des enfants en Afrique de l’Ouest
·Apprentissagede moyens favorisant la gestion de situations émotionnellement difficiles, et à fonctionner de manière plus opérationnelle en optimalisant les compétences professionnelles
·Développementde l’organisation du travail, centré sur la création de compétences nouvelles (travail en réseau, gestion de projet, jalons pour l’évaluation des compétences parentales)
·Réalisationde recherches-terrain et de recherches-action pour comprendre les pratiques familiales et institutionnelles d’éducation. Proposer et promouvoir de nouvelles pratiques éducatives, ainsi que des réformes sur le plan de l’action sociale et/ou familiale au niveau local, national ou régional de l’Afrique de l’Ouest
·Cette formation vise à terme un changement socialsignificatif en faveur des enfants et des familles, en particulier dans la Sous-région
Portée régionale du Master

STRUCTURE

Formation académique post-grade composée de :  ·
36 jours de cours présentiels, représentant 7 unités d’enseignement (modules) repartis sur 3 semestres  = 30 crédits LMD
Travaux individuels préparatoires, lectures, exercices pratiques et stages tout au long des 3 semestres présentiels  = 60 crédits LMD ·
Rédaction d’un mémoire de fin d’études durant le 4ème semestre  = 30 crédits LMD
Elle équivaut à un total de 120 crédits LMD.

PUBLIC CIBLE

Cette formation interdisciplinaire s’adresse aux professionnels du domaine de l’enfance en général, aux professionnels qui travaillent avec et pour des enfants, ou engagés dans la défense des droits de l’enfant ; ceux-ci doivent être au bénéfice d’une licence universitaire : responsables et professionnels d’ONG chargés de la promotion et protection des droits de l’enfant, responsables et professionnels travaillant dans des ministères, travailleurs sociaux (éducateurs, assistants sociaux, administrateurs, inspecteurs), directeurs d’institutions éducatives ou pénitentiaires, juges, officiers de police, procureurs, avocats, médecins, infirmiers, responsables des centres de santé communautaires, personnel du secteur de la santé, psychologues/psychiatres, quelques places disponibles pour doctorants/étudiants en fin de cursus…

DOSSIER DE CANDIDATURE :

Le dossier de candidature doit contenir :
1. Une lettre de motivation, avec indication des attentes et ce que l’étudiant peut apporter par sa participation à la formation
2. Un CV présentant de façon détaillée les formations et expériences professionnelles avec copie des titres obtenus
3. Une photocopie de la carte d’identité ou du passeport
4. Une photo passeport
5. Attestation du paiement des frais d’examen de dossier (30.000 CFA).
COUT DE LA FORMATION

Frais d’examen de dossier :  30.000 CFA.
Coût de la formation :   600.000 CFA pour l’intégralité de la formation
Coût de 130.000 Fcfa par module pour auditeur libre (les frais de transport, repas, logement sont à la charge de l’étudiant-e)
Inscription à l’Université d’Ouaga II obligatoire pour les candidats retenus.
