2nd Issue September 2025EditorialToday, we’re  looking for a new colleague at the EADI secretariat in Bonn, Germany! And we are happy to share our new reflection paper which explores the potential of social science fiction as methodology in Development Studies. Our blog discusses the role the Asia-Pacific countries can play in the current crisis of global governance, and we cordially invite you to two EADI-sponsored events.

New Reflection Paper on Social Science FictionReimagining the Methodological Horizon: What Can Social Science Fiction Offer Development Studies?Laura Camfield and Andy Sumner examine the potential of social science fiction (SSF), an approach combining social science analysis with narrative and imaginative techniques of science fiction to explore the human consequences of global income inequalities. They argue that SSF could enable scholars to develop new conceptual and theoretical ideas about past, present, and possible future social orders.

From our BlogAsia-Pacific Middle Powers: Holding the Line in Global Development GovernanceIn our latest blog Taekyoon Kim argues that, in the current turbulent times, » the Asia-Pacific middle powers – Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and South Korea – are emerging as pivotal actors. Early Career Researcher Support at the EJDRDid you know that our journal, the European Journal of Development Research (EJDR) has a specific early career researcher support system in place to help publish high-quality original papers? As these researchers may not always be familiar with the review processes, the early career initiative has been designed to assist with the understanding of this process. It is a ‘supported learning’ submissions route for early careers authors, to help fulfil their potential. The EJDR has even created a video on this initiative, providing step-by-step comments and guidance on how to structure a strong international development academic paper. Read moreThe EJDR is EADI’s Journal.
