Today we are happy to share the very first post in our EADI/IOB Conference blog series. We’re also excited about the ongoing discussion about the future of development policy on the blog! And if you happen to be a student in Development Studies or related field, you are cordially invited to take our survey on the future of teaching. It’s anonymous and won’t take you long. And don’t forget to check our upcoming events and those of our Working Groups! From our Blog Geostrategic Axes and Transitions in Development Cooperation « Not only have the sources of aid’s legitimacy weakened », writes Jose Antonio Alonso, « but so too have the power structures, doctrinal underpinnings, and value system upon which the aid architecture has traditionally rested. In this context, the risk is twofold: either development cooperation slides into progressive irrelevance, driven by the reluctance of some and the indifference of others; or, alternatively, it fragments into a disordered mosaic of disparate practices, lacking a shared framework or common normative horizon. » Read more

Reversing Agrarian Change and Restoring Hope in Ghana’s Mining‑Affected Communities « Reversing agrarian change is not simply an environmental task; it is a social and economic one. By restoring degraded soils, creating inclusive pathways into farming and embedding local governance and market linkages, we can make farming attractive again and secure the future of rural Ghanaian communities. » Our first blog post related to the upcoming EADI/IOB 2026 conference discusses what’s needed to restore land destroyed by mining and provide sustainable agrarian livelihoods. Future of Teaching Development Studies – Student Survey We have launched a consultation process for a Perspective Paper on Development Studies, with a practical focus on how it can be taught in a changing world. This short survey seeks to gather student perspectives, and its findings will inform the paper and support practical recommendations on curriculum design, skills development, pedagogy, and guidance on digital tools and AI. Highlight: Gender Economics in the Global South This open access book by UNU-WIDER  provides an overview of cross-cutting edge research in the economics of gender inequality in the Global South, while offering a snapshot of women’s living conditions using recent worldwide available data. The evidence reviewed encompasses a large set of possible solutions to end gender inequality, from policy reforms to ban discriminatory practices and grant equal rights to men and women, to anti-poverty programmes, as well as interventions facilitating women’s access to formal education and the labour market.
