Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a significant forthcoming publication from CODESRIA of interest to scholars, practitioners, and advocates working in African studies, feminist theory, gender and development, and decolonial thought.

African Feminist Theory Articulated and Grounded in Tanzania: A Response to Western Patriarchal Neoliberalism byRasel Madaha

In this landmark work, Rasel Madaha examines the intricate ways Tanzanian women have defined and defended their own liberation — moving beyond Western-centric frameworks to articulate a feminism deeply rooted in communal values, historical resistance, and local realities. Drawing on more than two decades of action research and sustained community engagement, the book investigates the intersection of patriarchal structures and neoliberal economic policies, and shows how Tanzanian women challenge global power dynamics while remaining grounded in the lived experiences of their communities.

The book serves simultaneously as a historical record of African feminist thought in Tanzania and a forward-looking manifesto for a feminism that is authentically grounded, fiercely independent, and transformative.
