Invitation to the 70th birthday of ISS

    ‘We want to reconnect with all of you in the world.’ Professor Inge Hutter, ISS RectorWe are pleased to invite you to the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) 70th anniversary festivities from 10-14 October 2022. The theme of our Lustrum year is ‘reconnecting’, celebrating the creation of new bonds and memories. There are several events happening during this exciting Lustrum-themed week. 70th Dies Natalis ceremony13 October | 16:00 CEST | Aula B & onlineWe are taking you back to the beginning, 70 years ago, to connect the dots between our present and future. During this dynamic (hybrid) event, our speakers narrate three eras and locations that have shaped ISS: Paleis Noordeinde (1952-1977), Hotel Wittenbrug (1977-1993) and Kortenaerkade 12 (1993-present).

  Book launch10 October | 16:00 CEST | AtriumThe book, ‘Trade and Investment in East Africa – Prospects, Challenges and Pathways to Sustainability’, by Dr Binyam Afewerk Demena and Professor Peter van Bergeijk will be launched. During the launch, the authors will shine a light on their new MOOC, ‘Trade and investment: evidence-based policies for development’.

  Open and responsible science: From harm to justice in knowledge production

During this event, ISS researchers discuss six co-created principles for overcoming injustices in knowledge production alongside representatives of marginalized communities.
