| 1st Issue December 2025 Editorial Before slowly wrapping up our activities for this year, we’d like to remind you that the survey on future priorities of our work is still open until Christmas, and we’d really love to hear your opinion! The open call for abstracts for our flagship event next year closes a few days before on 21 December. In the meantime, we’ve not been idle: we’ve got two new blog posts, a new working group, and had a very interesting roundtable last week about the uncertain future of global development, which is now available to rewatch. From our Blog The Challenges of Decolonising Sustainability and the Environment in Development Studies « While engagement with sustainability and the environment may seem like a neutral way to describe relationships between humans and nature, the roots of sustainable development are in reality deeply shaped by the legacies of colonisation and coloniality. » In this blog, Lyla Mehta delves into the colonial history of environmental protection, suggests pathways towards decolonising Development Studies and calls out remaining challenges. Read more Three Ideal Types for the Future of Development Cooperation « What is ultimately at stake is the system’s limited capacity to respond to the profound transformations reshaping the international landscape », writes José Antonio Alonso, adding that a new narrative is not enough to solve the crisis of development cooperation. To explore possible trajectories, he proposes three ideal types of development cooperation instead, which don’t aim to reflect reality, but rather to highlight a referential model for analysis. Read more To the Blog Overview New Video: Global Development at a Crossroads Global development cooperation faces profound uncertainty. Declining aid budgets, rising nationalism, and geopolitical rivalry are eroding shared principles that once underpinned collective action on poverty, inequality, and sustainability. This online roundtable brought together leading voices from the Global North and Global South to debate competing visions, ground rules and emerging forms of internationalism.
