Retours sur nos derniers événements | Look back on our last events Streaming Platforms from the Global South – Trajectories and Transnational Expansions, 27-29 October 2025, Wits Club IRN South-Stream Mid Term meeting, Wits Club, Johannesburg © IRN South-Stream Le réseau de recherche international (IRN) South Stream organisait ses rencontres de mi-programme du 27 au 29 octobre 2025 au Wits Club, avec le soutien de l’IFAS-Recherche. Dans la continuité de la journée d’étude du 24 octobre 2025, ces rencontres visaient à rassembler les membres du réseau afin de discuter de leurs recherches autour de trois principaux thèmes : 1) La trajectoire de plateformes musicales et audiovisuelles d’Asie, d’Afrique et d’Amérique du Sud et leur expansion internationale ; 2) Les flux culturels et technologiques dans et entre les régions des Suds et les reconfigurations locales ; 3) Les politiques numériques, l’IA et les plateformes culturelles. Des panels ont aussi permis des conversations entre chercheur·ses, activistes et professionnels du secteur. L’événement donnera lieu à un podcast. The International Research Network (IRN) South-Stream organised its mid-term meeting on October 27-29, 2025, at the Wits Club, with the support of IFAS-Research. Following the workshop organised on October 24, 2025, this meeting aimed to bring together the network’s members to present and discuss their research around three main themes: 1) the trajectory of music and audiovisual platforms from Asia, Africa, and South America and their international expansion; 2) cultural and technological flows within and between regions of the Global South and their local reconfigurations; and 3) digital policies, AI, and cultural platforms. Panels also allowed for dialogue between researchers, activists and industry professionals. The event should give birth to a podcast. Autour de nous | Around us Appels à projets & candidatures | Calls for Projects & Applications Appel à candidatures – Formation « Guiding visitors at rock art sites » de l’IRN RAHMSA | Call for applications – IRN RAHMSA training workshop « Guiding visitors at rock art sites » Our partner the IRN RAHMSA, an international collaboration network specialised in spreading of up-to-date techniques and methodologies in rock art studies, invites applications for a one-week training workshop in guiding visitors at rock art sites. The workshop will take place on September 14-21, 2026, in the Masunga area (Botswana), and will include site visits, lectures and group work. Applications are open to graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, heritage practitioners working with rock art, and people involved in local sustainable cultural tourism linked with rock art. Jan-Bart Gewald, Sabine Luning & Harry Wels, 2026 The book Gaping Holes: Towards Multispecies Histories and Ethnographies of Mining in Southern Africa, edited by Jan-Bart Gewald, Sabine Luning and Harry Wels has recently been published at Brill. In this volume, contributors acknowledge that, in Southern Africa, mineral extraction is central to the Climate Crisis in the Anthropocene, and attempt to write histories and ethnographies of mining in southern Africa in which the human is decentred. As such, the various chapters focus on animals and plants in relation to mining and thus show a way forward for further research in southern Africa and beyond. Find more about the book here.
