EADI eNewsletter #11/2 2018 | Definition of Development Studies, inspiring videos & more

Editorial

This afternoon we will start our research communications workshop and are already very excited about it. Nineteen communicators from various EADI member institutes will meet to exchange experience, network and look into opportunities for future collarboration. This way we hope to strenghten the voice of development research in the political and scientific discourses that are relevant to our members’ work. We are also very proud of the inspiring short video on Global Citizenship Education produced by the Bridge 47 project we are part of. And, last but not least, we keep publishing articles on our new blog which we hope will soon become a discussion platform for many issues concerning development research.

From our blog
Since the launch of our new blog in the last newsletter, we’ve been publishing two new articles as starting points for further discussion. By asking « What if some of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) turn out to be incompatible with others? », Christiane Kliemann sheds the light on unquestioned assumptions behind the framework of the SDGs. In « Development Studies Matter! Framing an Evolving Field of Study in Changing Times » Susanne von Itter presents the EADI definition of Development Studies, an appetizer for our forthcoming book « Development Studies in the New Millennium ». Please also consider this a standing invitation to comment on and contribute to our blog!. Read more

Bridge 47 –  Video about Global Citizenship Education
« We as educators, as scientists, as activists, we do have to work together and we also have to dream and imagine alternative social ecologically just futures ». Don’t miss this inspiring video about the power of Global Citizenship Education; it is only two and a half minutes long! As part of the Bridge 47 project, 100 people from all over the world got together to share and learn from each other: « Critical for our survival is our ability to connect with various struggles of social jusctice, food, environment, race, gender, equality, class, it is a whole system’s challenge », what a powerful message!
