Together with the urgency of climate change, the war in Ukraine has revealed how critical the subject of energy is for national and European security and led to an unprecedented shift for the European energy sector. In this context, our speakers will discuss the threats faced by the European energy sector as a consequence of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the actions taken by European Union Member States over the course of last year to secure energy supply, assess the current prospects regarding next winter’s supply and the remaining REPowerEU plan’s implementation challenges. They will then propose concrete additional measures to enhance energy security in the context of climate action and building resilience. These experts participating in this conference are leading the European response to the crisis.Speakers Mechthild Wörsdörfer, Deputy director general for the European Commission Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER)Laurent Michel, Director General of Energy and Climate (DGEC), French Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial CohesionNicolas Berghmans, Lead European affairs and energy at IDDRIThe debate will be moderated by Prof. Marc Ringel, Chairholder of the European Chair for Sustainable Development and Climate Transition at Sciences Po.
