May will be a month of innovation for AFD Group. From May 9 to 13, the « Spring of Innovation » will offer many internal events for agents to stimulate creativity, open up to new horizons and innovate in favor of the SDGs. This week will end with a computer challenge open to all on the theme of “Artificial intelligence (AI) at the service of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”

  AFD Spring of Innovation: Hackathon on artificial intelligence!   In partnership with the Institut Supérieur d’Électronique de Paris and UNEP, AFD will launch a Hackathon from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 May to help computer science students find an artificial intelligence model to identify the degree taking into account the 169 targets of the 2030 Agenda in the documentation of a project on Sunday evening. This approach is part of the group’s desire to bring the data and sustainable development worlds closer together in order to find new solutions at the frontier of these sectors. This challenge is also an opportunity to introduce students to AFD professions and to innovate in our approaches.

Reducing Inequality: Why Working Together is No Longer Just an Option?

An op-edpublished co-signed by Koen Doens (European Commission), Rémy Rioux (AFD), Antón Leis (AECID), Kunal Sen (UNU WIDER), Jean Van Wetter (Enabel) and Jürgen Zattler (BMZ) in the Global Policy Journal on March 15th, 2022. This article is adressing the time limit to reach the goals of the 2030 Agenda and how vital it is to pursue a new model of partnerships, based on coordinated responses, if we are to reach our international commitments and reduce inequality for all by building sustainable, inclusive and resilient societies.

Strong Sustainability Trajectories Conference
 AFD launches a call for research papers

  On December 7, 8 & 9, 2022, AFD is organizing its 15th International Research Conference on Development, on the theme “Strong sustainability: are Net Zero development trajectories sustainable?”

A call for research papers has been launched to fuel discussions during the Conference’s Academic Days.

Applications are open until June 15th, 2022.

  Labour market trajectories and conciliation efforts among female Uber drivers This article examines female Uber drivers’ labour trajectories, paying attention to the way in which gender-based occupational segregation is reproduced and/or challenged in the context of the platform. It also asks how female drivers balance between paid labour and care responsibilities. The analysis focuses on the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on platform female drivers work-life balance. The article uses qualitative interviews with Uber female drivers, finding that the entry of female drivers into Uber comes with a significant challenge to the gender division of labour in Argentina.

The Impact of Digital Platform Labour on Argentinean Domestic Workers in Times of Pandemic    The article analyses how the platform economy affects the domestic service sector, focusing particularly on the issue of workers’ formalisation. It looks at Zolvers, the only digital platform for domestic workers in Argentina, and uses a mixed method approach to inspect workers’ relationship between jobs in and out of the platform

This event will welcome leaders of Third Places from many African and French countries, thinkers and professionals who will come to feed the debates and meetings, such as Achille Mbembe, philosopher, Gabrielle Halpern, philosopher and Noël Corbin, Delegate General for Transmission, Territories and Cultural Democracy (Ministry of Culture) which will close the day of the round table.
